Desert Places is an observation of a sanctuary that inhabits its landscape. It investigates the relationship and interaction between the built and natural elements such as wind, light, and water. The tranquility this place offers, along with its sensory and textural experiences, are the main subjects of this film.
Thar house, designed by Studio Raw Material, coexists with the landscape of Makrana tehsil in western Rajasthan. Desert winds make ripples in the pool while indigenous Khejri trees cast fuzzy shadows on the dry-stone walls. These walls and pathways are made of discarded stone fragments. A natural patina of the materials, garnered through their past lives, such as chipped edges and discolorations, is presented as a form of embodied history of the material.
